There’s another allegory structure that often gets employed, especially when at your appointments and in speech regarding them. Where the target is the Patient and from there all sorts of metaphorical and allegorical constructions may be made. I often see significant others, Plants or Moles in your life that provide you with care referred to as Nurses, Honeypots as well. Their affection is framed as labor in this context and this framing is designed to isolate you mentally from them in that regard.
I have not heard much so far in terms of the doctor or surgeon in this context. I presume they are preserving the doctor term at least in my scripts to influence my relationship with the word later when I pursue my doctorate.
The only time the surgeon is mentioned is in contexts where a family member is entering into surgery and they are threatening to coerce the medical staff into inducing complications, most commonly an infection. That or they have suggested I become a surgeon (usually referencing attention to detail, this has happened maybe twice) which is just not my calling. It’s also an ego/flattery thing.
